Final Grades

The exam grades and Final Grades are posted on Blackboard. The grades for the final were not too bad. I eliminated five questions, so your percent correct was out of 45 instead of 50. After that "curve", the class average was 77.5%. There weren't too many A's, but lots of B's and high C's, so as a class you performed well.

Your total points are also now posted, as well as your Final Grade. If you check your points, remember that one set of your team activity points was dropped, so use the Total Participation Points rather than the individual 10-point activities, or else your total will be 10 points too high. (The last one was a freebie anyway, since we didn't have class that day.)

Here was the grade distribution for the course.

A: 30
B: 44
C: 23

Thanks for a great semester, and for being the guineau pigs for the peer review discussion boards. It didn't work exactly as planned, but it will be very smooth for the next class. Have a good summer.

Update 5/12 7:40 p.m.: I discovered that the team member evaluations had been left out of the formula, so your point total may have changed slightly than from earlier today.

Project Points, Total Points, Etc.

I have posted your project grades on Blackboard. I enjoyed them all, and it was apparent that you put a lot of work into them. If you go to the assignment Inbox, you will see the grading form and the breakdown of how your project grade was calculated.

Your Total Points now include the project and any points added/deleted from your Team Member Evaluations.

I have posted a grade calculator here and on Blackboard ... just enter the total points from that column and it will calculate the points needed for an A, B or C -- or tell you that it is not possible.

Also, if you didn't see it on Blackboard, I posted a "study guide" type document with topics you'll want to focus on to prepare for the final exam.

Team Member Evaluations

Remember, if you haven't already completed the team member evaluation form, you should do so before midnight tonight.

If you don't complete a team member evaluation, you will not receive the additional points given to you (if any) by your team mates.

Reminders

Remember, no class today (Wednesday, May 5). An electronic copy of your project is due by midnight tonight, and a hard copy is due either in my office or in my mailbox in the marketing department office before ~~midnight~~ 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Also, all of your points are now posted except the final exam and the project. For the peer reviews, you will see three grades, one of which will be a zero. There are 50 points, so 25+25+0=50/50 points. I just have to enter a 0 so that Blackboard doesn't think there is a grade missing and put your total points in parentheses.

I have also posted all of the class participation points to date, as well as the peer review and case analysis, and updated your total points. If you want to know your approximately grade thus far, divide the total points by either 590 if you have completed both peer reviews, or by 565 if you still have a peer review remaining. (You could also add 23-25 points and divide by 590 if you want to see what your grade would be with another peer review.)

If your point total is in parentheses, it means you still have a peer review grade remaining. Remember, the group project and final exam together count for 40% of your grade, so nothing is even close to being final, but at least you'll have a general idea of where you stand.

Your Current "Total Points"

I have posted all of the grades for the case analyses and peer reviews so far. These points include Exams 1-2, one peer review, case analyses and 60 points worth of participation.

I have created a new column in Blackboard with your total points. If you want to know your approximate grade, you can use the points to determine what percentage you have earned of the total points available. The number of points available depends on whether or not you have had a case analysis and/or peer review due.

Use the chart below.
Keep in mind that this is less than 50% of the points from the class, so there is plenty of opportunity to improve your grade. But I did want to give you an idea of where you stand.

Grades Posted For Exam 2, Cases And Peer Review Discussions

Updated 4/2 1:45 p.m.: To help alleviate the confusion about the case analyses/peer review schedule, I created a document that breaks it down by group. You can download it here.

The grades for Exam 2 are posted on Blackboard. The grades overall were pretty good, although there were more D's and F's than I would have liked. I threw out four questions that a large percentage of the class missed, so your percentage reflects your percent correct out of 45 instead of 49. After that curve, the class average was 78%. The minimum was 48% and the maximum was 105%, so there was quite a spread. Grade distribution is above.

I also posted the case analysis grades (if you did one) and the peer review points. Some of you were confused about whether or not you needed to do a peer review if you had a case due earlier this week (you did). The only ones who didn't need to do a peer review were groups who had done Case 2-1 or 2-3. These discussions are something new this semester, and I'm still working out the bugs, so it may not have been clear.

So ... here's what I'm going to do. If you missed your assigned peer review, I will assign you one of the other cases from this batch. That way you still have a chance to earn the points. ~~Watch for a new discussion board tomorrow.~~ The new discussion boards are now available. The deadline for the next set of peer reviews is April 19.

Peer Review Assignment

Some of you have asked about the peer review assignment. Hopefully, this will clarify.

In Blackboard, under the "Discussions" tab, you should see a discussion board for either Case 2-1 or Case 2-3. (If your group did an analysis for either of these, you won't have one to critique.)

In the first message of the string, a case analysis is attached. You should read over the analysis and discuss and critique it. You must make at least one posting to get any points, although you can post more. Your discussion will be graded on the quality of your comments and critique.

Peer Review of Case Analyses

I have created discussion boards for the peer reviews of the case analyses. You should see a discussion board for an analysis that another group submitted. Read the case and constructively critique their analyses. What did you agree with? Where do you disagree? The group who submitted the case will be able to see your comments and respond, but everyone will be anonymous.

In order to receive the full 25 points, you should (1) provide substantive comments, (2) be respectful and constructive (3) post your comments as a dialogue, acknowledging if others have already made comments, and (4) don't wait until the last minute.

This is an individual assignment, so each student is responsible for participating in the peer review process. The discussion board will be available until Sunday, March 28.

Updated 3/12 5:54 p.m.: I had to pull down the discussion boards because of a problem with the anonymous review process, but they are now back up. You will now see the names of other users in the discussion, so I haven't given the authoring teams access to the discussion board. I will provide the comments to the authoring teams after the discussion is closed, with names deleted.

If you had left I comment previously, I had to delete it. Email me if you didn't save a copy and I will send it to you to repost.

If your group didn't do a case analysis, you will have a peer review assignment posted on Tuesday. You will be responsible for posting individual comments/critiques for another group's analysis. It will be a double-blind process, so you won't know which group's case you are critiquing, and they won't see your name. The discussion will be open until ~~Friday, March 26~~ Sunday, March 28.

A Note About Group Sign-In

I may not have made this clear, but let me state this very clearly. Do not sign anyone's name other than your own to the sign-in folders.

While awarding points this weekend, I noticed that there were a number of instances where all of the names were obviously in one person's handwriting. In another case, there was a group member who I know was definitely not in class, but was still signed in.

I think this is just a misunderstanding of the process right now, due to my not explaining it clearly. My bad. However, in the future I will consider signing in someone else as a form of academic dishonesty. Don't do it. It's not worth it for 10 points out of 1,000.

Exam I Grades Posted

I have posted the grades for Exam I on Blackboard. The grade you see includes the curve. I threw out five questions because at least two-thirds of the class missed them, so the grade was calculated as the number correct divided by 40 (rather than 45).

There was also one question that inadvertently contained two correct answers, so I gave you credit for either one.

After the curve, the class as a whole did pretty well, although some of you definitely need to spend a bit more time studying. The class average was 78%, with grades ranging between 40% and 100%. The grade distribution is below.

Important Announcement About Group Assignments

Based on your Group Sign-Up sheets you completed in class on Wednesday, I have created groups in Blackboard. Please double check that you are assigned to the correct group. Group 10 did not return the folder to me, so wasn't able to enter your group into Blackboard. If you are not in a group, please email me as soon as possible at david.taylor@unt.edu so that I can get you matched up with one.

Also, if you are assigned to a group, you will be able to see the group case analysis assignment under the "Assignments" toolbar in Blackboard. You will see the case and due date for your group, along with instructions. Be sure you make a note of the due dates. I randomly assigned groups to cases, and some are due earlier than others. If you have an earlier due date, your peer analysis will be later, so it will somewhat even out.

Finally, I have posted the handouts for Chapter 3 for Monday's class. You can download them from Blackboard.
